If you’re like me, you spend most of your time at home. I run my own business, so the home office is my go-to spot when it comes time for work. It’s easy to spend my days in sweatpants or pajamas, but it does nothing for my confidence to go day to day without getting ready. Feeling more confident at home is easier than you think. It can be done with a few small changes like exercise, your vocabulary, getting ready, and staying positive.
Exercise
When I’m feeling down, a short 30-minute workout does wonders to lift my mood and acts as a reset. I also enjoy that it’s body transforming, but my main focus is that it’s great for my confidence. Working out at home can come in the form of a workout DVD, or a YouTube video, but it also can be a walk around the block or playing outside with your children or dog. The key here is to make sure this workout is for confidence boosting purposes only. You don’t want to focus on your weight or fitness; it’s all about your mood and how you feel about yourself. After just one or two workouts you should start to feel different and gain confidence in yourself and your abilities. The more frequently you work out the more experience you’ll get, which will only increase your confidence.

Vocabulary
Did you know that the things we tell ourselves we focus on the most? It’s true, and those things you say over and over in your head will start to become the truth if you aren’t careful. Labeling yourself as shy, not confident, or insecure won’t do anything for you in terms of building your confidence so change that pattern today, if not for yourself then for your kids. To raise confident children they need a confident role model. Start telling yourself, “I’m confident” or “I’m working on being confident” and you’ll start to see results. You may find you slip here and there but the more you correct yourself, the more you’ll start to believe those positive thoughts.
Getting ready
When you’re spending most of your time at home it seems silly to get dressed to go out, but putting yourself together each morning will send your confidence sky high. You probably feel better after simple things like a shower or brushing your teeth. So why not take it a step further and do your hair and makeup? I promise you you’ll feel different and carry yourself differently after just a day or two of getting ready. So put on those jeans and a nice shirt. Whatever makes you feel the most like you. It only takes an extra 10 or 15 minutes, and you know you’re worth it.
Stay positive
Once you start taking more time for yourself to put yourself together, you’re going to start getting compliments. I know it can be hard to actually enjoy a compliment instead of feeling embarrassed or not worthy, but you are so worth it! Next time someone says something nice smile and say thank you. You’ll be thanking yourself as well, and reaffirming the fact that you’re confidence is growing and it feels good.
