Some might call me a serial entrepreneur as I’ve been creating businesses since I was a teenager. Businesses that most often evolve from a problem that I’ve been through and then figure out a solution. Then, I share it. It’s because of this methodology I’ve been really fortunate enough to have successful businesses and master what, I think, became a (secret?) strategy to creating passive income.
But success is – well, it’s one of those terms that everybody defines differently. You might define success as making money or being profitable. I can tell you, all of my businesses have been profitable. And I’m not one to pat myself on the back, I swear! Just laying out the facts, ma’am.
I’m from Michigan. I live in California but, in my heart, I’ll always be a Midwestern girl with Midwestern values. I grew up in an auto town, which, I always say, makes me a car girl. Being as everyone I knew was really into cars, it didn’t hurt that the very first official business I ever created was the All-Michigan Auto Swap Meet.
It was a business I created to solve a problem I was experiencing.
Problem: Selling used vehicles.
Solution: I purchased vehicles, then would fix them up and resell them.
That was a pain in the butt. It was difficult for a myriad of reasons I don’t have time to go into, but I made it a relatively successful business. Successful enough to put me through college! As you might know, I’ve also created other solutions, like exercise programs for people who don’t really like to exercise. Again, that was me kind of solving my own problem. I didn’t like most exercise. That might actually surprise some peeps, but tis true!
HERE’S THE THING: There’s something you’ve figured out, as well. You might be way too close to it to even realize it’s a potential passive income thing.
You might have told yourself excuses like:
- “Well, you know, you can find it for free on YouTube.”
- “Well, it’s something that a lot of people already know.”
- “Isn’t it common sense?”
But you’re wrong. Well, you’re right – but you’ve missed a really, really important piece. YOU.
You don’t have to be the expert. You don’t need to know more than anyone else. You just have to be an expert in the way you figured it out.
Are you willing to spend money if you know someone has a solution to a problem you have and by going directly to them – the source – will save you time? Would you be willing to pay someone for their expertise even if you knew that that expertise existed somewhere on blogs and podcasts and YouTube for free? Would you be more likely to pay someone for that information if they could save you massive amounts of time and wasted energy by telling you the direct route?
Yes… of course you would.
Especially, if it’s someone who delivers the solution in a way that speaks to you. They speak your language. They get you. You relate to them.
That thing you’ve figured out in YOUR way could FOR REALS create passive income for you. Any challenge! Any crazy thing you’ve been through!
Even the tough stuff.
Have you had to deal with the death of a parent? Have you ever fought with someone in your family over money? Did you succeed in getting all of your kids’ scholarships? Have you figured out how to keep a marriage together for twenty plus years?
It’s not easy to look at your own accomplishments, objectively. Most people lack self awareness here. Or just even the basic understanding that what they know – what they’ve figured out – can be helpful to others. I want you to ask everyone in your life WHO GETS YOU what they feel you have a strong handle on. Their answers might surprise you. Add to this list whatever you come up with.
This list is your key to making passive income, my friends. Do you realize we’re positioned perfectly right now in a very unique time and place in history?
