Your friends and family make up the people that surround you. While we can’t pick our family, we can pick our friends. No matter the size of your friend group it’s important to have friends that you can rely on, that make your life better, than make you feel important and valuable. Friends can come from all different areas of your life, from the neighborhood, your work, and even from childhood. With all these people coming together in your life, it’s important to find those aspirational and inspirational friends. You know, the friends you want to be more like. I’m going to provide some information about what an aspirational friend is, and how having them inspires your life.
Making you Better
To me an aspirational friend is someone who when I spend time with them, they influence and enhance my decisions to better my life. This is a healthy friend who provides energy and inspiration. I always admire how they treat other people, their integrity, drive, and how they prioritize their life. I feel I can learn from them every moment I’m with them, and just being around them makes my life better. Do you have friends like this? If you think about your friends now you probably have some you lean on, and some that lean on you. Are the feelings mutual, or are there some one-sided friendships? It’s important to have balance in your inspirational friendships, and feel like you’re learning from each other, not heavy on one side or the other.
Not about Money
An important aspect of these aspirational friends is that money is not a factor. Please don’t find someone aspirational because they have more money than you do and that’s a life you’d like for yourself. Don’t aspire because of a financial situation; life is about so much more than money. Instead, look for people that keep you on track and want what’s best for you. Aspirational friends should see your potential and lift you up, not make you competitive to make more cash than they do. People are much more than their bank accounts. And in order to live a well rounded life, you need to focus on character qualities first, and keep finances out of it.
Evaluate
We get to pick our inspirational friends, so make sure you evaluate your current relationships. Your life will grow if you have aspirational relationships, because there’ll always be a place to work to be better in your own life. If you’re lacking in aspiration, think about where and why. Sometimes we don’t realize that our friends are more convenience friends than true friendships. But we have stop to think in order to make adjustments for the future. Signs that your friends are more convenience include only hanging out with them in specific situations, or cringing when you have to spend time with them. Changing our friends can be difficult, but remember, you’re trying to better your life. And only friends with more to give can lift you up and help you grow.
