Social media is a great way to showcase your business and extend your community. Periscope is a new social media platform that let’s you create live videos for public or private viewing. Sometimes things are better explained live and creating videos will allow people to put a face and a name with your logo and business. Getting started with Periscope is very easy; here are some tips and ideas to get you started.
What is Periscope?
Periscope is a social media platform where you watch and create live video broadcasts. Users tune into the broadcast and can comment as well as give hearts, which shows their appreciation for your topic and content. Periscope is app only, which means only Android and iPhone devices can create or watch content. It is free to join and requires a Twitter account to get started.
Watch broadcasts first
Since you’re new it will be very helpful to watch someone else’s broadcast before you start filming your own. Watching others will help you see how they set up their shots, what they talk about, how they interact with other people, and how the whole process works. Learning from live broadcasts will give you a good idea where to start with your own, and will make your first few posts a little easier. A good place to start is by watching others that are in your field of business. This will help you see how things unique to your area will come across to the audience. You can also get ideas from other fields, maybe a more upbeat tone or interesting settings to shoot your videos.
Planning videos
Since these videos are live it’s a good idea to think about and even plan your videos before you film. Having a topic in mind, talking points, a call to action, and a way to wrap it all up will make your videos more powerful. Sometimes people start a Periscope with good intentions but soon end up rambling and answering questions on the spot. Spending time planning will make you look more professional and will help you stand out. Remember that these Periscopes are business centered so keeping the topics related will help people understand your channel and what your goals are.
Creating content
The content you create will represent your business so make sure it’s on point and gets your message across. You can use Periscope to explain any aspect of your brand from what your intentions are, goals, milestones, or even answer customer questions. Make sure you change up your broadcasts from informative, more social, and question and answer. Having a variety will keep your audience interested and will make it less likely that someone will skip a broadcast or replay. You can also take a poll and ask your audience to vote for future topics by asking for hearts when they like a topic. This will increase your popularity and will give you future topics that people want to watch and hear about.
In my opinion, Periscope is DOPE yo! I absolutely love this platform. It is an incredible way to connect with your followers. I know it’s not everyones cup of tea to be on video. But, I promise once you do it a couple times, you will become a pro! Don’t allow the fears to block you from what might potentially be the next big step for you! If you need more help getting your Periscope account going, I created a free pdf download that give you seriously everything you need to know about creating your account and then building it.
