Have you put in the hard work to get in shape, but you constantly struggle to lose the last 5 pounds? Whether you have to lose the last 5 pounds, or you have to lose 100 pounds, it’s all done the same way – in small increments. Achieving these small goals is possible when you get serious about what you’re eating, and you work to break plateaus.
But first, before you even start, figure out if you’re being too hard on yourself. Most everyone feels they have some weight to lose. Do you look and feel great, but you’re just obsessing over an unrealistic number on the scale? Or, do you really need to lose a few pounds? If you still have weight to lose, whether it’s just a little bit or a lot, following these three steps will help you get there.
How to Lose the Last 5 Pounds
#1 – Work in increments – set small manageable goals.
If you have 100 pounds to lose, don’t think of it as “Oh my gosh, I have to lose 100 pounds.” Think of it as “I have to lose 5 pounds this month.” Or, if you have 5 pounds to lose, think of it as “I have 2 pounds to lose this month.” Work in increments and set small, manageable goals for yourself. Keep plugging away at it, and you will get there!
#2 – Get really serious about your diet.
The last 5 are the hardest, and it has everything to do with nutrition. Even if you’re eating super clean, if you’re consuming more calories than you need, the scale won’t budge. Take a serious look at what you’re eating and how much you’re eating. Keep it clean, and keep a close eye on calories in vs. calories out.
#3 – Break your plateau.
Our bodies have an incredible ability to adapt. If you’ve been doing the same workout routine for a while, and you’ve also been stuck at the same weight for a while, it may be time to try something new. By trying a new program, you will confuse your body and make it work harder. I recommend doing whatever sounds the most challenging for you. The more taxing it is and the more you shock your body, the faster you get results.
Focusing on small increments, cleaning up your diet, and trying something new will all help you to reach your goals. But first, make sure you’re being realistic and remember that character (not body composition) is what makes you a good person!

I have been trying to lose the last 10 pounds for years now. My bad! I read the same tips as you have stated here over and over again and I keep trying to no avail. I guess I should heed the words of Yoda “Do or do not. There is no try.”
Here I go to DOOEET 🙂

Such concrete, simple, but great advice. Sometimes we try to make it way more complicated but the more and more I read and research it always comes back to this. Excited to implement these simple truths for results!

What about KEEPING the last 5 pounds off! I can follow this advice short term to lose the last few pounds, but I can never do it LONG TERM. Those few pounds creep on again and I have to start the process all over again!
