Tips for Creating a Killer Freemium Video Series
Freemium is a great way to grow your email list, create a community, and introduce new followers to you and what you’re all about. Using a free video series you can teach new people about yourself, what you’ve been through, and why you’d be a great resource in their lives. I created a video series and it has been growing my community every year since it’s launch. Here are some tips for creating a killer freemium video series of your own in no time at all.
Create a teaching video series
I personally think videos are the best freemium to create because people get to put a face to a name and get to really see your personality. More specifically I think the video series should be centered on tips for dealing with a personal struggle. Everyone has a struggle and it exposes you on a more personal level, making you relatable and more real.
Topics
Coming up with a topic for these videos may take a little time because you’re so close to the source material. Asking friends about struggles or challenges you’ve dealt with may be helpful. Sharing your answers will be easier because you know the topic well and have been through it. I think using your personal struggle or challenge is a good choice because people are attracted to struggle and deal with it in their lives themselves. People want help and advice, and since you already know so much about the topic why not share your experience and insight? After some brainstorming to come up with your topic, take it further and identify five to seven tips to help with the challenge. Each of these tips will be one video in your freemium series.
Recording
I think Periscope is a great medium for recording your videos. Periscope is a free social media app where you can live stream a broadcast, in this case an open discussion about one of your tips. You can do Periscope on your phone and setup your camera next to it so you can edit and add to the video later, without losing the information on Periscope. Make sure you have lots of natural light and use a microphone to capture quality audio.
Content
Each video should have an introduction covering your bio as well as your credibility to the topic. This should mention what you want people to know you for and why you’re making the video. After discussing the tip, make sure you give the viewers homework. A quick assignment that can tie your tip to their lives, and including a comment on your website, will help them apply your experience to their lives and will keep them coming back for the next video. Make sure you mention that your solutions/tips will get better and better and tease a little about the next video. This will draw them in further and increase the chances of repeat viewers which can help create a community on your website.
