The holidays are always a great reminder of everything we have to be grateful for. The hustle and bustle of life can distract us from our daily blessings. But there’s something about the holidays that allows us to slow down and take in a little bit more of life.
I have been blessed beyond belief to have the life I have. A few years ago, Bret and I were so wrapped up in what we thoughts was success, that our marriage was suffering and my family was making a multitude of sacrifices in order for me to sustain my addiction to work.
Bret and I hit a breaking point.
I get choked up every time I think about the moment.
He looked at me, and said, “when is this going to stop?”
We both realized that we weren’t happy and we made a conscious decision, together, to change it. We have to re-define success; on OUR terms.
In my opinion success starts with being grateful. If you constantly going, going, going after this or that… or more of this, cause I must have that to be successful… that is an ungrateful mindset. That is a mindset that is unable to take a step back, and just appreciate what you have.
That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go after your BIG dream. Trust me… I think you are worthy of accomplishing your big goals in life. However, I also want you learn how to appreciate the little things in life.
“Take 5 minutes in the morning and write 3 things you are grateful for.”
One of the best ways to start appreciating more in life, is to create a daily habit of writing down things you are grateful for. Purchase a journal from your local store and have a daily entry. Take 5 minutes in the morning and write 3 things you are grateful for. My recommendation is to do this in the morning. It’s a great way to start your day with the right intention.
