Starting a business and feeling a little less than qualified? Is the fear of failure holding you back? You’re not alone.
This is something all entrepreneurs struggle with at one point or another. Whether you’re a novice or a professional.
You might think that when you’re NOT marketing yourself out there as an expert, thoughts of self doubt are less likely to sneak in. Less pressure or something.
NOPE.
And for those of us who have an information product? You know, that thing we want to sell which relates to our personal expertise, our own system, our own way of doing things. Then that little voice of self-doubt, ironically, can be on another level!
Especially once you’ve arrived at the stage of developing your product – anything from a brick and mortar to an online academy to a book – that impossible whisper of failure conveniently creeps in and (with only the best intentions, of course!) warns us:
WAIT! What if somebody finds this or buys this or sees this and they think it’s not good enough?
Gotta be honest, I experienced a parallel self-doubt when I first started doing personal and business development. Notably because everything that I wanted to teach other people was really an assembly or a compilation, if you will, of the things I’d learned from leaders in their specific field.
See, it would never be my intention to position myself as one who invented or created these ideas. That would seriously break my moral compass!
Rather, I was skilled at the way I put them together and applied them to my own life.
I reminded myself all the time that nowhere is it written that I must be an expert.
That is legit how I got over that fear.
Have you ever heard me claim to be an expert? Not going to happen. I’m just going to tell it like it is and say, “Here is the best way I’ve learned to do it for me. And if it helps you… awesome.”

Fear is my number one obstacle… and feelings of “lack of qualification and expertise.” This post reminded me that I don’t have to be an expert in the area of which I’m discussing, just an example of someone who learned concepts and applied them in my own life, successfully. Thank you.
