A few years ago, when I was in the process of filming my second series of home workout infomercial videos, I was determined to be in the best shape of my life. I worked out hard, ate clean, and restricted my calories. I even participated in both the morning and evening workouts for our test groups that were following my program. But for some reason, I was heavier than I had ever been! I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time, and I know what you need to do to lose weight. But I couldn’t seem to figure out why I was working harder than ever before yet none of it seemed to be working.
Put Your Life on a Diet
Then, I stepped back and really took a look at my life…I was stressed to the max trying to create a new program while running a business, juggling meetings and conference calls with taking care of my kids and home, working long hours, and trying to do EVERYTHING myself. No wonder I wasn’t getting anywhere! The crazy amount of stress and chaos I had allowed into my life was causing my body to hold on to fat!
I finally realized I had to take the advice I had given so many of my clients before. I had to put my life on a diet. I actually decreased the amount of time I spent working out, focused more on strength training and stretching, got more sleep, and added some calories to my diet with lean protein. But even more importantly, I began delegating many of the things I was doing that someone else could do much better and faster than me, and I eliminated a lot of stress in my life.
Low and behold, the weight started coming off! And years later, now that I’ve eliminated even more stress, I’m in the best shape of my life! Our health and fitness is so closely connected to the kind of life that we’re living.
