I love this quote, and actually have it posted on the wall in my gym. I love this quote because it kept me focused and motivated to finish things, when I wanted to quit. Up until my late 20’s I pretty much quit everything I started. I would start something, then figure out that there was someone out there that was better at then me, or that I just wasn’t “that good” at it… and so, I would just quit. Commitment was not my thing.
“Don’t quit and finish the rest of your life as a champion.” Mohammad Ali
Yes, there ARE things in life you need to let go of. However, today I want to talk to you about what it takes to NOT quit. The commitment to finish a project that you’ve devoted time to.
No. 1 – Be MORE selective
- I personally like to use my priority clarity statement to keep myself on track. My priority clarity statement is a brief, few sentences that comprise the focus and direction of my life, while keeping my priorities at the forefront.
- Write it down and keep it close.
- How much time is this REALLY going to take? How interested are you really going to be in this, weeks from now, months from now! Be honest with yourself.
No. 2 – Create short time objectives
- If you’re like me, we’re looking for a payoff… so create short term goals for yourself.
- Instead of setting goals for the year, do every 90 days; or even every 30 days!
- Instead of thinking 30 days out, think 3 to 5 days out.
No. 3 – Stop being a commitment jumper
- You need to stop, take a step back, and be honest with yourself. Jumpers are courageous… but sometimes that unstoppable courage gets you in to situations that you end up not finishing.
No. 4 – Have accountability
- The people around you know you better than you know… so give people permission to call you out. Give them permission to hold you accountable and to keep you on track to finish what you started.
- In addition, you need to know the triggers that set you up to jump in to projects that you SHOULDN’T be doing.
No. 5 – Know when you’re done
- Define the end and put it in writing. What constitutes it being done? Write out EXACTLY what defines done for this project.
No. 6 – Know when it’s not working and it’s time to move on
- Be honest with yourself and know when it’s time to let go of the project you’re holding onto.

I told myself today that I want to see this “one thing” through to the very end.
Today there is a group of people who want the accountability and I believe God is on all the details. So your message resonates with me.

I just love your ideas
I have a question about flexibility. I have NEVER been flexible Even as a child when all my friends were doing splits I could barely stretch. All those exercises with your legs up in the air, I just can’t get my legs straight. I stretch every day and can barely touch my toes. I am so envious of women who can put their chests on their legs! What can I do to increase my flexibility? Or am I just not built that way?
